Photography | Wildlife Photography
Photography has been around for more than a century. There are many different types of genre in photography; for
example, portrait, landscape,
wedding,
and wildlife photography just to name a few of them. One of the most rewarding is wildlife photography.
It may take you several hours before finding the perfect picture to capture, but the reward and satisfaction
is more than worth the wait.
Wildlife Photography Requires Good Camera With Telephoto Lens
Wildlife photography is perhaps one of the most difficult in the profession. You need to have the time,
inclination, and, of course, a good camera. Most
wildlife shots are captured using a telephoto lens because the animal will not come near you. Every once in a while
you may be able to capture pictures of the tiger, elephant, bear, fox, elk or
other animals as it comes through the woods into your path, however, most of the time they are metres away and out
of sight.
Wildlife photography does not wait for you to let things happen and then snap a photo. You need to immerse
yourself in the site you choose, explore the surroundings and have your camera ready and preset to the appropriate
settings. Most automatic cameras will work great on the preset settings and very useful for those who are just
learning to take wildlife photographs.
Practise Taking Wildlife Photography With With Your Pets First
Photography has always been about the special moment and the best wildlife photographers can catch that special
moment with accuracy, speed and agility of the animal they are capturing. Start with small subjects when you begin
your path into wildlife photography. You may practice first with your pets. Let them roam naturally and see if you
are able to capture the wild and crazy moments on film without the picture ending up blurry.
Practise Wildlife Photography With Moving Target

All great wildlife photographers have studied and practiced a lot. Making sure your camera has a quick shutter
speed feature will help you take more than one shot as you move with the animal. When you have the subject in your
sight, you need to follow it while focusing accurately and then quickly snap as many pictures as you can before
they move out of sight. This technique in wildlife photography is known as panning. Rather than waiting for the
subject coming to you, you should follow the subject.
Practise Wildlife Photography With Stationary Target
When you have mastered with your pets, you can begin to explore the outdoor nature of wildlife photography. Some
of your subjects will be standing stationary and this is another practice technique. Be aware of the placement and
lighting in the surrounding while trying not to disturb or frighten the animal. It is most easy
to get a picture of a squirrel when they are eating or foraging for food. If you stay silent and walk quietly and
carefully, you can often get pretty close.
Wildlife Photography Code Of Ethics
If you are choosing a larger subject such as a bear or tiger, you will want to stay far away, enough to get the
shot and not draw attention from them. Bears and tigers are dangerous creatures, but they can be photographed if
you are careful and use common sense and do not tread upon their territory.
In wildlife photography, the photographers have a code of ethics when capturing the perfect
shots. You will want to remember and follow these ethics for your own safety and the animals. Wildlife photography
is a waiting game for the perfect picture to sprint across and capturing it with precision speed and accuracy with
your camera. It takes patience, good observation skills and a lot of practice.
