Photography | Underwater Photography Cameras
Interest in Underwater Photography is growing year after year, those who go diving regularly
wish to bring the diving world visible to those who cannot or do not dive. We have always been fascinated with the
mysterious oceans. Bringing vacation pictures home to show your family members or close friends or selling them, as
professionals photographs has been a time honoured tradition. Now we can even bring the underwater world
home through the use of digital photography.
Choosing A Underwater Photography Camera
There are different types of underwater photography cameras. You have the very expensive
professional underwater photography cameras and the ordinary underwater photography cameras. Knowing which
camera you can afford and will work for you is very important. Part of finding the most appropriate camera may
lie with the camera housing you wish to purchase. Underwater
photography requires you to safe guard and protect your camera from the harmful effects of the ocean
water. You will have to purchase a good camera housing with tight seals to eliminate the water. The housing you
are looking for must fit the camera you
have. In fact, most shops will sell the housing for the cameras you purchased from them.
Ordinary 35mm Underwater Photography Camera

If you think you will require a better camera for the underwater world, you are advised to look into special
packages that some shops may offer. These special packages will include the appropriate housing. Let us look at the
common 35mm cameras. Most of these cameras are only good for just point and shoot land photography. If they
were meant for underwater photography, chances are they have at least a mild filter to compensate and correct for
the lack of colour underwater. These cameras will not filter out the particles or organisms you find moving in the
water on a day with poor visibility. Usually such cameras will have a limit of up to 100 feet deep. It is not
advisable to use this type for anything below or deeper than 80 feet. You would not want to loose your photographs
because the housing failed under pressure. Though this is not common, it is a great concern for most
photographers.
More Expensive Professional Underwater Photography Camera
The more expensive professional underwater photography cameras are larger with a huge lens to let the light
enter as well as using the filters to
help bring clarity to any photograph. Typically, these cameras require you to have a deep interest or
indispensable hobby in underwater photography, as such cameras can be rather expensive. Digital cameras are
preferred over manual cameras for underwater photography because you
will be able to ensure that you have the desired effects and pictures before leaving the scene. Of course,
most underwater life will not hang around or stay and pose for a second shot, but coral reefs and the marine
lives that inhabit them may remain.
Enhance Your Underwater Photography With Proper Flash
Most underwater photography cameras will also include the flash. Sometimes the flash may help you with the
photographs, but other times, it will only wash the subject out and spoil the picture. Some flashes are external
accessories and some are built into the camera. The external flash can be a pole or stick with a little
light bulb on top. You can also take pictures in the underwater with your cameras when you are
snorkelling. It is strongly recommended that one should take an underwater photography course before delving to far
into your hobby.
When storing your underwater photography camera and flash when not in use, you are advised to store them without
the batteries as the batteries can die off easily or may leak and erode the camera’s interior. This is mostly for
the cameras that utilize double AA batteries. Underwater photography is a great world that you can bring home with
you especially if you are on a dive holiday or vacation. Underwater photography requires more skills than normal
photography due to the lighting
conditions, but once you practise taking them regularly and understand them, you will be able to bring home great
pictures every time.
