Photography | Subject In Photography
How do you know what photos or pictures you should take? Are you going for a family or friends reunion? Are you
going out for a hike and see the nature and hopefully to see some wildlife? There are
many thoughts and questions when it comes to photography. A good photographer will spend much time and effort to
acquire the most basic photography skills and techniques to provide the best shot. Once you have acquired these basics
but essential skills, the subject in photography will be up to you. Most photographers, whether
they are amateurs or professional will have a medium they work with. It is similar with other artists; you have
sculptors, painters, sketch artists, and much more. Photography is an
art and therefore requires a keen eye for the right photograph.
Using Your Interests To Choose Your Medium In Photography
How do you know what subject should you shoot or capture? This is where your interests lie. If you desire to
take pictures of animals or wildlife, then you will have to practise patience and wait for the subject to come into
view. Obviously you can visit a wildlife park such as the Rocky Mountain National Park and hope to find subjects.
Usually it will depend on the time of year. Elk and Deer are seen more often when they come down
from the mountains to mate and eat. Birds will always be available, but the type and kind of birds will vary. If
you are in Alaska, chances are you will have good opportunities of shooting a Bald Eagle, while in Florida you may
find cranes or heron.
When you are trying to practice your techniques in photography, you will have to choose your subject
accordingly. A lot of us are regulated or limit ourselves to the area around us. Landscape photography
requires the use of the land and the surroundings you have around you, or unless you are going on vacation and
visiting some new places. This is another important factor when choosing a subject in photography. You are either
limited to your neighbourhood area or you may have the whole world at your feet. It will depend on your travelling
abilities and time.
Decide Your Medium Then Search The Subject In Photography

For now we will stick close to our neighbourhood area. Once you have chosen your medium, you will then go in
search of subjects. The subject that you are most interested is what you should choose to shoot or capture. If a
tree and its branches and leaves interest you, you will first need to check the lighting of
the surrounding area. After which, decide which angle you should shoot from that will offer you the best shot. The
lighting may not be sufficient for the subject you have chosen and the other side of the subject
that provide the best angle may not yield the best picture. To choose a subject appropriately will require a good
eye for detail and observation.
Often the best subject that you decide to take may not be the one you can see with a plain eye. Have you ever
looked closely on a tree and found a spider web hiding and being weaved in between the leaves? If
you look closer you might even find a spider still spinning the web. A spider web can make a great and excellent
picture not only because of the technique and skill required to have the web appear in your photo with the silky
threads, but also the amazing pattern of a spider web. We are curious and fascinated with a tiny creature that can
create a symmetrical pattern.
Your detailed and sharp eye is the best tool for finding a perfect subject. How you choose the subject will
depend on the surrounding such as what is available, the angle and the light. Moving slowly through an area such as
landscape or nature reserve will help you find and determine the subject. Looking under leaves or rocks is often
helpful in discovering something new and different. You never know where and when you will find a perfect subject
just waiting for you to click a picture.
Some people or animals may do things that will never happen again and this is when you want to have camera
available and ready. Most people who are very keen in photography will usually carry a camera with them everywhere
they go. If this sounds like a habit, a real habit and interest may turn into a genuine hobby that can generate a
possible income if you become good at taking the right pictures. As you get better and more professional at taking
the good pictures, you can then start displaying your pictures in the Internet for others to see and view and
possibly buy them.
