There are many types of photography but one of the most candid styles of photography is the street photography. It consists of
candid pictures captured on people in public
situations. Street photography began from photographs taken anywhere on the street and has now moved to the malls, parks, clubs, streets and
practically everywhere. A street photographer never requests anyone to pose or to act as if he or she knows what might happen next. This takes
away the natural look requisition needed when using the technique of street photography.
Documentary Photography
Street photography stems out from another type of photography called documentary photography. Documentary photography was once known to be the most honest and truest to life
picture taking. Street photography reflects society in its untainted natural state. This accounts for many photographs we see on the Internet and
magazines that reflect what was happening at the time. Pictures of this genre normally use black and white film.
Capturing The Emotions Of Society In Street Photography
Street photography often shows irony in situations or emotions. Many professional street photographers use wide-angle lens cameras to capture
a larger area. The shots are usually accompanied with the appearance of a screen or a window viewing the human state or emotion at a particular
moment. This type of picture taking captures the most honest and truest moments in life. Many professional photographers who specialize in street
photography take their cameras to public
events like meetings, conventions, festival displays, mass displays or even tragic sites.
A famous street photographer by the name Garry Winogrand was well known for capturing New York surroundings everyday for years. He was
interested in shedding light and highlighting on the contemporary social issues of his time. He became well known after the
1960s. He shot a total of about one hundred photographs a day for about thirty years, and left more than three hundred thousand unedited
exposures.
Capturing Untainted Moments In Street Photography

One interesting thing about street photography is that sometimes a photographer might capture things on film that they themselves were not
even aware of. Strange and funny things might be happening and appear in the background or the foreground of a photograph that they do not even
know. When the film is processed and developed, they often find unexpected appearance within the scope of their shots that are ironic,
interesting or funny. Many times, things are seemingly unrelated to the that particular shot, but because of this factor, one can say that street
photography is one good way that we can use to capture the original untainted moments.
When Street Photography Started?
The genre of street photography started between the end of the 1800s. One of the assisting inventions of street photography
was the 35-millimetre film. The 35-millimetre films were first introduced towards the late 1800s. Photographers of both Europe and North
America spread the popularity of the genre and developed the art behind it. Some well-known street photographers of that time were Henri
Cartier Bresson of France and Robert Frank of Switzerland.
You do not have to be a professional to be a street photographer. You do not have to use black and white film either. All you need is a way or
skill to take street pictures. The pictures you take can talk about the society. Your photographs can include and record people doing mundane
activities like working, eating or sleeping. Becoming a street photographer can be a great and enjoyable hobby. You can even donate your pictures
to museums and upload into your own website for everyone to view. There are also photo archives that consist of different collections of pictures
contributed by photographers that are available for public use. This is also a place where you may want your pictures to be displayed. Street
photography is one way to capture the real natural moments of life. Once you try and have a hand on street photography, you will find yourself
caught up in the real world. The pictures will reflect the everyday life and the current moment of the society.
