Photography | Filters In Photography

Filters have two different meanings or understandings depending on how long you have had adopted photography as a hobby. Most of us today, in this
computer era, think filters as an option with using photography editing software like the
Adobe Photoshop. This is not the case for original photography. Before the invention of computers and software like Photoshop, we had small
circular glass discs to create the filtered affect.
Different Types Of Camera Filters
There are many different usage with filters, you can use it to create a blur effect in the picture, sharpen the picture or
use it to block out the UV rays. Filters are often used to correct a problem, create an effect or make a picture look a
little different.
Filter To Blurr A Picture
Lets talk about using filters to blur a picture. When you are taking a photograph of a waterfall from the bottom where the water rises in a
cloud, you can add a filter to your camera lens to create the cloud in the picture. Cameras do not always take what the eye actually sees. In
some cases, the camera may automatically preset a higher resolution to depict the actual water drops rather than the cloud effect, so adding a
filter to your lens will help to create the effect which is similar as what your eye sees.
UV Filter And Polarizer
Other filters for the lenses such as the UV protector is used to guard against the harsh sunrays. Along with the UV filter, you should get a
polarize filter. The polarize filter is used in photography when you are shooting a shot into direct sunlight or other light. It will help to balance out the
light in the photograph so that you do not get the washed out look. Other filters can be used to create the washed out effect if you feel your
photography would speak more. The filters effects created using software such as Photoshop are not as wide as the filters you can actually buy
for your camera lens, but they do offer some of the same effects that you are after.
Filter To Create Star Effect

Do you want to create a star effect when taking photographs of light filtering through the trees? You can create the star
effect in any pictures by using a star effect filter. This filter enables light to pass through a series of thin lines etched into the filter
forcing the light to streak outward in a star shape.
Fog Or Mist Filter
Some other filters are used to create a depth of field or focal point. The fog or mist filter is one of such filter. The fog or mist filter
creates a glow or flare of light in the photograph.
Colour Correcting Filters
Good photography encompasses much skills, techniques, equipment and accessories. Using filters to help create the perfect professional
photograph will enhance your fun and enjoyment with your hobby. Let us look at a few more other filters. There are colours correcting
filters. If the sky is too blue for the photograph you may want to choose a colour filter that will reduce the blue effect to a less
bright state. If you are into underwater photography, you may want to use different filters that will allow you to create different underwater
colours. The colour spectrum does not have a wide range underwater. A lot of things will look redder
even though they are not. It is not difficult to bring about the original colour of the underwater life if you use special filters for
colour correction.
The usage of the right filters in photography will enable you to create special effects in a photograph to add something new and different. It
will also help to correct and enhance the shot by adding more colours or dampening the natural effects of light. Photography has many different
types of equipment and accessories that require skills and knowledge, making it a marvellous and enjoyment hobby or profession. Photography as a
hobby will also allows you to be more creative.
