Photography | Digital Photography
Photography is an
art. It takes practice, skill and a keen eye to capture excellent pictures. Not all or many people will take the
time and effort to study a landscape,
wildlife, building, or other subjects to find the hidden depth or beauty within, but if
they do they will find great meaning in the photos they captured or taken. Professional photographers spend
much time and effort looking for new and different ways to shoot a subject.
Advantages of Digital Photography
Digital photography is just one new technology or method of taking a picture. There
are numerous advantages working with digital photography. The darkroom is not required anymore and the computer
colour printer comes forward for most of us working with digital photography. We can also choose to send or
email our pictures to all our family members and close friends, located locally or overseas, with just a few
clicks of the computer mouse.
Digital photography makes taking a picture really simple, by eliminating most of the guesswork. With the LCD
screen on the back of digital camera, you can now view the photo at an instant without waiting for hours or longer to
see the film develop. We are no longer limited by the capacity of the film. We can use either internal or external
memory cards to take unlimited pictures in digital photography.
Most memory cards nowadays offer 32MB or even up to 8GB depending on how much you are willing to spend on
equipment.
Digital photography allows you to choose either to own the professional cameras with interchanging lenses and manual
setting or just a simple point and shoot camera. Whether you are looking to take a professional grade picture or
something your friends will just laugh over, digital photography has made taking photos much easier with lesser
effort. We can view the captured picture before we print. Many digital cameras are also
packaged with photo editing software that enables you to crop, edit and save the
photo before printing.
Digital cameras can come in various sizes, from a key chain camera to the professional type. Most of us also had
a little fun with the digital cameras that are inbuilt into our phones. If you are most keen on the professional
side of photography, the first digital camera you choose should offer the flexibility for
interchangeable lenses with a high resolution and ISO. It can be set to automatic if you feel more comfortable with
light settings, however most digital cameras have ISO settings, aperture, and shutter speed choices as well.
Understanding Digital Photography

Like with more experienced photographer, setting up your shot is half the fun. Determining the settings you
require to use for light is the other. Setting up your shot still requires you to have a keen and alert eye for the
unusual or for making the unusual out of a common scene. Walk around the subject and look for every possible angle,
you may even decide to take a few shots to choose the best angle. This is where digital photography surpasses and
wins hands down over film cameras every time. Once you have looked at all possible angles and taken some photos,
you can instantly view to see if the effect of the shots you wanted is there.
Digital photography is a much faster way for you to learn and understand how to set the correct shutter
speed and aperture on a shot and the use of lighting because you can see the results while you still looking at the
scene. Digital photography may not seem like it would require using all those skills you learned on your old film
camera, but this is definitely not true. Instead digital photography will enhance your learning and photography skills while you are still at the sight.
Instead of spending long hours in a darkroom or waiting in line, you can get the shot or the picture you desire
right then. It certainly gives more when taking vacation photos as you can see if your thumb is accidentally
over the lens or the camera strap was in the way or worse someone just walked pass in front of you.
Digital photography, like all things, has evolved and progress to help us experience a new way or method in
photography.
