Photography | Digital And Film Cameras

In the past, you simply did not have to make a choice between any other photography methods other than film. Everyone
owned a film camera and either we learned how to develop our own film or bring it to the nearest film or photo processor shop. Now, you do have a
choice and many people who are using film camera previously wonder, which is better. Today we have both film cameras and digital
cameras. Here are the advantages and disadvantages of using digital and print photography.
The Advantages Of Using Digital Cameras
They are obvious for most people. Perhaps the best point about a digital camera is that you can have instant access
to the pictures or photos you have just taken. When you use a digital camera, you can immediately view the picture that you have just taken
and decide whether or not you require to re-shoot that particular subject again.
In addition, when you take pictures with digital cameras, you can easily download and view the photos on your computer. You
can archive your pictures easily, enhance them with photography software and print them on your colour printer.
On top of that, digital prints allow for easy storage and retrieval. You can shoot hundreds of digital pictures with your digital
cameras and store them in your computer or on a couple of external memory cards. Compare that to the boxes or albums of
printed photos that you probably have in your home.
The Disadvantages Of Using Digital Cameras

There are many disadvantages of using digital cameras as well. For example, digital pictures are easily lost or accidentally erased. If you
are like most people, you probably download and store your pictures in your computer and never do anything else with them. If you fail or forget
to back up your digital pictures taken with your digital cameras to an external disk, all it takes is for your computer to crash one time and you
are at a great risk of losing all the hundreds of valuable pictures you have taken.
Many professional people feel that digital pictures do not have the similar look and feel as film prints. For this reason, most professional
photographers still prefer to use the older film cameras, instead of digital cameras.
Digital pictures can also become expensive if you print them out at home. A good quality printer paper, plus colour printer cartridges for
your colour printer can add up to your cost quickly.
The Advantages Of Using Film Cameras
As mentioned earlier, many professional photographers still prefer to use film cameras compare to digital cameras. If you
take pictures for hobby or interest, you would like to play with and adjust your film camera manually to get the exact look and feel that you
want. This is not always the case with digital cameras.
Some people prefer to use a film camera, so it will force them to have their pictures developed straightaway. Rather than leaving your
memories inside a disk, you have to have your print pictures developed and printed to view. You will always have them in your physical albums to
look at.
The Disadvantages Of Using Film Cameras
It seems that film cameras are losing popularity. Film is not as convenient and handy as digital. One must wait to have
pictures processed and developed before you can look at them.
It is also expensive having the pictures processed and developed. In addition, when you use film, you must have everything on your roll of
film, be it good or badly taken, printed out. You do not have the flexibility to scroll through and delete bad pictures on the spot as you do
when you use digital cameras.
When considering film or digital cameras, there is no obvious choice that one is better than the other. The choice has got more to do with
your own personal preferences and desire than anything else. If you are considering buying a new camera, take a look at both film and digital
cameras to determine which ones are right for your use. Some people even possess several cameras, a combination of both film and digital type
cameras.
What If You Only Have One Choice - Digital Or Film Cameras
If I had only one choice between a film and digital camera, I would choose a digital camera over a film camera because of the option to view
pictures right away. This will enable you to know straightaway if you are capturing the image the way you intended too. I have taken too many
fuzzy and blurry pictures, missing important features of photos and so on. Another thing is, with a digital camera, if you wear glasses, you will
still be in focus. Where as with a 35 mm focus film camera, you might have taken some fuzzy or blurry pictures that you are not even aware of,
and you may never find another chance or opportunity to capture that moment again.
