Lasik | My Lasik Surgery Experience Part 1
Many of my friends wonder what it is like to go through a Lasik vision
correction procedure. I've shared my experiences with some colleagues at work who have also had
Lasik done. There are enough variations to give insight to those who are trying to decide
which Lasik physicians or Lasik centers to go to.

Entering The Room That Prepared Me For The Lasik Procedure
In my case, my Lasik procedure was scheduled for the late afternoon. One of the directions for patient who has
just had a Lasik procedure is to go to sleep as soon as possible. This helps the healing process to begin as
quickly as possible.
After entering a room to prepare me for the Lasik procedure, I was given further instructions on how to care for
my eyes once the Lasik vision correction is completed. I was offered a mild sedative just to keep me calm
during the Lasik process. In preparing my eyes for the Lasik procedure, I was being dosed with eye numbing drops
and some kind of medication. I'm not too sure of the other pre-operative steps, as I was trying very hard not
to think about either Lasik or my eyes at all.
At this point, I was escorted into another room and waited for some time. I sat back, listened to the nice
piped-in music, and waited for my turn in the Lasik operating room. There were two other patients waiting
together with me in this room. So it's apparent that my doctor's setup for his Lasik patients is different from my
colleagues' doctors. Both of my colleagues were alone in their pre-op rooms until they were escorted into another
room where the Lasik procedure was actually performed.
The Actual Lasik Procedure

As for the Lasik procedure itself, nearly all of us have about similar memories from this procedure. We
all felt some pressure when the various Lasik implements were used on our eyes, even though there wasn't any real
discomfort or pain. There was some blurring of vision for the eye being worked on. Other than that, the real
sensation was mainly audio - the whirring and clicks of the machine. One of my colleagues also mention that
there was a distinctive smell, which is somewhat similar to burning hair. There could have been a slight
smell during my Lasik procedure, but it wasn't significant enough for my attention to be focused on it.
After a short while, my Lasik physician said the procedure is completed and that I had been a good
patient. I hope this experience will be of some help to those of you considering to have a Lasik procedure
done.
