Lasik | My Grandfather's Lasik Experience
Grandpa is someone who enjoys new inventions and gadgets. When I returned home for holidays, I learnt that he had undergone a
Lasik operation for his vision. And it was wonderful to find out that he didn't experience any of the common temporary
side effects of Lasik operation. He also mentioned that his Lasik procedure was practically trouble free.
In addition to the sunglasses, the Lasik doctor also gave Grandpa a pair of goggles to wear at night. This is to prevent him
from rubbing his eyes in his sleep. Grandpa also wore them at breakfast and for almost all meals, saying that it is to prevent a possible
squirt in the eye from a grapefruit or wine glass.
Common Temporary Side Effects Of Lasik Surgery
Two of the most commonly experienced temporary side effects after Lasik surgery are sensitivity to light or glare (especially at night), and
some possibility of fluctuating vision for some days after the Lasik procedure.
As it turns out, the only real post Lasik operation symptom that he actually experienced was dry eyes. The eye drops were helpful for this
purpose. Later on he realised he needed to get a second type of eye drops from his Lasik doctor, since he needed a thicker prescription to
get through the night comfortably. Grandpa was surprised that he seemed to be a model Lasik patient at his age, even though his doctor
mentioned he had done a number of very successful Lasik surgeries for patients into their seventies.
Why Grandpa Wanted A Lasik Operation
I was very surprised that Grandpa even bothered to consider a Lasik operation, for I never noticed that he had a problem with his
glasses. He said it's because Lasik will reveal the handsome man he is much more clearly to the ladies, though he has been a widower for
many years and seemed fine with that.
He mentioned that the clarity of vision that the Lasik procedure given him is much better than what he has had in the last few decades.
Nowadays, Grandpa seems more interested in things and is also getting more active than I had ever seen him in the last few years..
