Once upon a time, astrology was an accepted science and was recognized as a part of medical diagnoses. There was
a relationship between astrology, medicine and astronomy. It’s difficult to say whether we’ve
progress or regress, as we now no longer believe in living in harmony and unity with cosmos. We think about
ourselves as too advanced scientifically to realized and understand that movements in the stars and planets might
have a crucial effect on our everyday lives and our health.
Astrology In Historical Context
Who is anyone to say that man, with his limited intelligence, can truly understand the workings of the universe,
or how he adapts within it. Western civilization is asserted on conquering, not comprehending. However, it was not
always so.
Astrology
is one of the most essential factors in historical context in which astronomy began and progress. The Babylonians
carefully pieced together tablets of the position of Venus, as it was believed to indicate omens for weather,
famine, diseases, war, rulers and kingdoms. Claudius Ptolemy created the Tetrabiblos, believing that astrology could be recognized on a
realistic footing, despite being a hypothetical art like medicine. In practice, trust in astrology meant that
horoscopes were calculated and selected for newborn children, political enemies, prospective spouses, marriage
and other ceremonies conducted on auspicious days. A number of records on astrological practice can be found
from the Roman times. Roman physicians naturally consulted astrological charts as part of the diagnostic
process.
Astrological Zodiac Signs In Relation To The Human Body
For illustrative example, every sign of the zodiac was believed to rule a part of the human body - the Sagittarius ruled the thighs, Pisces ruled the feet, and so on. When the moon, in the zodiac, was
ruling a specific part of the body, bloodshed from that part was to be avoided, since the power of the moon
might cause excessive bleeding. A number of medical manuscripts and almanacs contained the figure of the zodiac
man as a reminder of the precise influence of the moon. In addition, the power of the moon's attraction varied
by its phases, and thus almanacs normally showed the phases of the moon as well.
